More than 45 years
after her death Marilyn Monroe continues to be the subject of countless
new books. I prefer to collect photo books, especially photos that were previously unreleased. I don't really buy biographies anymore because it is typically the same material told over and over again. I also don't buy the "cover-up theory" kind of books.
I prefer to celebrate Marilyn for her life than the way she died.
The very first Marilyn item I ever got was the book "Marilyn" by Barris/Steinem.
I purchased it second hand for 25 cents and I was captivated by the photos of Marilyn and determined to learn all I could about this fascinating woman.
I have been lucky enough to acquire several autographed books. The George Barris autograph is my favourite because I actually got to meet
him and obtain it in person. A close second is the book Jimmie Dougherty signed for
me through mail. Next to the autographs, I am also proud of contributing
to and/or being acknowledged in a couple of books. The most recent
is "The Marilyn Monroe Treasures".
I
hope Marilyn book collectors will find this information useful. I
have included cover scans of the 89 books I have in my
collection. Each page below includes detailed information about
the book including a review (in most cases).
I'd like to thank David Marshall for allowing me to
publish his book reviews. I stand behind everything he has written
so I thought it was a nice addition to this section.
