MY TRIP TO HOLLYWOOD
August 3-6, 2001

Saturday was sightseeing day. After the Hollywood Entertainment Museum it was off to the Ripley's Exhibit. The person who owns Ripley's bought a number of very important items from the Christies auction and he set up an exhibtion to celebrate her birthday. Although, I was thrilled to see these items in person I was also disappointed that they were there. Ripley's is not the place for her things they seem out of place. The other exhibits were very unpleasant photos and everthing else in there was like a joke, very fake looking and some of it quite disturbing. Marilyn said, "Please don't make me into a joke" and I think she would be disappointed to see her things here.

These slippers are just so "Marilyn". I remember looking at them over and over again in the Christie's auction catalogue so it was really amazing to see them in person. However, seeing her make-up case was the highlight for me (well along with the Barris Sweater). In the second photo below you can see a box with her name on it that contained her fake eyelashes.

Next it was off to see some Marilyn places....the photos below are of Hollygrove, the orphange where young Norma Jeane lived; and the house where Marilyn and Joe DiMaggio lived. In fact it was at this house on the front lawn that Marilyn announced their divorce.
