It was said that Marilyn was an occasional smoker. Although, looking at some of these rare photos it appears the habit was more than occasional. The first time Marilyn was seen sporting a cigarette on screen was in Right Cross (1950), though in her very first screen test she lit and put out a cigarette. She appeared on at least one magazine cover smoking a cigarette, and she is smoking in bed in the opening scene of Niagara (1953).

Very few of the thousands of photographs taken of Marilyn show her smoking, however, some do exist like the ones below, that expose her bad habit.

The background of this page is actually lot 408 from the Christies auction of her personal belongings. The lot consisted of 8 ashtrays and they sold for $8,000.
